Call for Applications: International Humanitarian Fact-finding Commission Internship

The International Humanitarian Fact-finding Commission (IHFFC) is offering a paid, part-time internship to a NYU JD student who will monitor the relevant work at the United Nations, provide support to Members of the Commission upon their visits to New York City and support the Commission’s Annual Meeting in Geneva, Switzerland.

In addition to tasks in New York, the intern will travel to Switzerland for 1 week in April 2021 for the Annual Meeting and Bureau Meeting of the IHFFC.

The IHFFC is an independent and permanent treaty-based organ established according to Art. 90 of the First Additional Protocol to the Geneva Convention. Tasked with conducting inquiries into alleged violations of international humanitarian law or with performing its Good Offices, it has observer status with the UN General Assembly (UNGA). More information on the Commission is available at ihffc.org. The Swiss Government acts as the Secretariat of the Commission.

The tasks of the intern will be:

A number of NYU Law students have performed the role of IHFFC intern since 2010, and the experience has been positive on both sides. The internship is organized by the NYU Center for Human Rights and Global Justice. Students interested in applying for the post should send a CV, transcript, and a cover letter outlining any relevant experience to chrgj.nyu@gmail.com by noon on May 17, 2020 at the latest. Applications will be considered on a rolling basis in advance of this deadline. Interviews with short-listed candidates (by skype or phone) will be held in May 2020. The selected student will ideally commence this role on May 25, 2020 for a handover with the current intern.

This opportunity is open to NYU JD students only. The position is for a 14-month term, with the option to extend upon mutual agreement.
