Hanna Hallonsten

Human Rights Student Scholar (email)

Hanna is a Human Rights Student Scholar, working with the U.N. Special Rapporteur on Extreme Poverty and Human Rights, Philip Alston. She is currently pursuing an LLM in International Legal Studies at NYU School of Law, as a Fulbright grantee and a Dean’s Graduate Scholar. In her coursework at NYU, she focuses on human rights law, humanitarian law, and international criminal law.

Hanna holds an LLM from Stockholm University, where she specialized in public international law and EU-law, and a degree in Political Science with specialization in gender studies, also from Stockholm University. Upon graduation, she entered a two-year clerkship at Stockholm District Court. Since 2014, Hanna has worked as a junior judge at the Svea Court of Appeal.  She has volunteered for a year in a women’s rights organization in Honduras and at several other human rights projects in Kenya, Swaziland, South Africa, and Sweden.
