CHRGJ Congratulates Veerle Opgenhaffen on her New Position at the University of Illinois, Announces Staff Changes
July 30, 2014

Our deeply appreciated and longtime Executive Director, Veerle Opgenhaffen, who has been with the Center since 2007, will be leaving to take up the post of Associate Director of Advancement for International Programs and Studies at the University of Illinois.  This is a major promotion and a very exciting opportunity and we wish Veerle the best of luck in her new job.  At NYU she has been an extraordinarily effective and congenial colleague who succeeded brilliantly in helping us to raise the profile of the CHRGJ and to establish it as a pre-eminent academic center in the field of human rights law.  Veerle also played an important role in building up the Transitional Justice Program at NYU and was especially active in supporting much of the Center’s work on a diverse range of issues in Haiti.

We are delighted to announce that Veerle will be replaced by Stacy Cammarano who until now has been the Center’s Program Director.  She holds a J.D. from the University of Texas School of Law and a B.A. with high distinction from the University of Michigan. Before joining the Center, Stacy worked as a law clerk in national security and counterterrorism at the Open Society Justice Initiative and as an attorney at the Urban Justice Center.  Stacy has played an important role in managing the Center’s work on fact-finding in international human rights law and on a range of other issues.  Please join us in congratulating Stacy on her new appointment.

Finally, Professor Meg Satterthwaite is now a co-Chair of the Center, joining Professors Ryan Goodman, and Philip Alston.  The CHRGJ applauds this appointment, with Professor Alston stating, “Meg is a superb colleague and clinician as well as a leading scholar in the field of human rights law.”

The Center wishes Veerle all the best in her new position and invites the NYU community to stay engaged in this exciting time of transition.
