The NYU Law Jean-Pictet Competition Team argued its way to the finals of the  2017 Jean-Pictet Competition on International Humanitarian Law held in Borjomi, Georgia this spring. After being selected to compete in Georgia by the Comité pour le Concours Jean-Pictet, the NYU Law team won its English-speaking group and went on to compete in the finals against teams from the Université de Liège and the eventual winners, the Universidad de Buenos Aires. NYU Law students argued before a panel of officials from the Special Court for Sierra Leone, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), and the Georgian government.

The Jean-Pictet Competition is hosted by the ICRC and presents a unique opportunity to gain in-depth and hands-on knowledge of international humanitarian law while meeting students from around the world. The Center for Human Rights and Global Justice oversees the selection process for the NYU Law Team, and funding for travel is provided by the Hauser Global Law School Program.

Shuya Cao, an LLM Candidate (Class of 2017) specializing in International Legal Studies, an honors graduate of China Foreign Affairs University, and a 2017-18 International Finance and Development Fellow.

Sebastian Dutz, a JD Candidate (Class of 2018), a graduate of the University of Toronto, and a 2015-16 International Law and Human Rights Fellow.

Adam Gordon, a JD Candidate (Class of 2017), a graduate of the University of British Columbia, and a 2017-2018 Masiyiwa-Bernstein Fellow.
