The deadline to apply for membership on the NYU Team to the Jean-Pictet Competition on International Humanitarian Law has been extended to Friday, September 21 at 9:00 a.m. due to an error in one of the previous announcements.
In response to student interest, CHRGJ will also be accepting applications from 1Ls to serve as volunteer researchers. Volunteer researchers will provide support for the team in the form of research and simulations during the preparation phases. The time commitment will be substantially lighter and more flexible than what is required of team members. Researchers cannot be registered as part of the team and thus will not contribute to the written submission or travel to the international competition. Please see updated announcement below for terms and application instructions.
The Jean-Pictet Competition is week-long training event on international humanitarian law that consists of role-play simulations. The 31st edition of the Competition will take place in late March 2019 in Obernai, France. Students selected for the NYU team will be notified in October and will be required to work together on a team submission to the Jean-Pictet Competition, due November 8. See full timeline below.
NOTE: Jean-Pictet’s international regulations require that participants be under 30 years of age. However, requests for exemption can be made, so applicants over the age requirement will still be considered for the NYU team. If you are over 30, please note this in your application or contact CHRGJ’s Executive Director Deborah Popowski at deborah.popowski@nyu.edu if you have questions before applying.
Please submit the following materials by Friday, September 21 by 9:00 a.m. to Brianne Cuffe at cuffeb@mercury.law.nyu.edu, with “Jean-Pictet 2018-19 Team Application” in the subject line. These materials must be compiled into a single PDF document.
We encourage applications from persons of color, LGBTQI persons, women, veterans, and persons with disabilities.
