Call for Applications: Human Rights Scholars with the Digital Welfare State and Human Rights Project (DEADLINE EXTENDED)

The Center for Human Rights and Global Justice’s Digital Welfare State and Human Rights team is seeking two research assistants for the Spring semester 2022, to support its work on research and advocacy surrounding the human rights impacts of the digitalization of government. The selected candidates will work closely with the team through providing research assistance on topics surrounding the digitalization of government, including digital ID and algorithmic governance, and they will also be involved in the organization of events and workshops with academic experts and activists.

Qualifications:

Candidates should have: excellent research, analytical, and writing skills; knowledge of, or interest in, the impact of digital technology on the economic and social rights of excluded groups, including those living in poverty; a commitment to human rights and social justice; and the ability to work with diverse groups of people and organizations. Experience working with NGOs, civil society, international organizations, or international financial institutions is desirable.

All currently enrolled NYU students (JD and LL.M.) are eligible to apply.

The position can be undertaken either for academic credit, or for compensation of $15/hour. The selected candidates will be given the title of Human Rights Scholar. They will be expected to work approximately 8 hours per week.

Dates:

The preferred start date is 31 January 2022 or earlier, lasting through the duration of the Spring semester.
