The Center for Human Rights and Global Justice (CHRGJ) is pleased to invite you to a discussion on the mandate of the UN Special Rapporteur on the promotion of truth, justice, reparation, and guarantees of non-recurrence, Pablo de Greiff.  Professor Ryan Goodman and Dr. De Greiff will discuss the current state of the transitional justice field, its achievements and challenges.  In addition they will consider the challenges, opportunities, and strategies for the new mandate, a position the UN Human Rights Council established in 2012, as well as those of UN special procedures generally.

As Special Rapporteur, De Greiff has presented three thematic reports to the human rights council (on a comprehensive approach to transitional justice, on truth commissions, and on prosecutorial strategies) and three to the General Assembly (on transitional justice and the rule of law, on transitional justice and development, and on reparations).  Additionally, he has presented country visit reports (Tunisia, Spain, and Uruguay), and recently completed a country visit to Burundi. De Greiff joined CHRGJ last fall after serving as the Director of Research at the International Center for Transitional Justice from 2001-2014.

Moderator: Prof. Ryan Goodman, CHRGJ Faculty Director and Co-Chair, Anne and Joel Ehrenkranz Professor of Law

Special Guest: Pablo de Greiff, CHRGJ Senior Fellow, UN Special Rapporteur Special Rapporteur on the promotion of truth, justice, reparation, and guarantees of non-recurrence
