In her forthcoming thematic report, which will be presented to the United Nations General Assembly on October 20, 2023, Professor Margaret Satterthwaite, the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the independence of judges and lawyers, explores the role that one kind of people-centred justice intervention—legal empowerment—can play in expanding access to justice in a rapid, efficient, and meaningful way.

Please join us October 20 at 6:30-8PM ET for a reception and panel conversation.
The Special Rapporteur has invited Jhody Polk, the Founder of the Jailhouse Lawyers Initiative, Viviana Patal, the Legal Director of the Women’s Justice Initiative, Senior Associate Justice Marvic M.V.F. Leonen of the Supreme Court of the Philippines, and Hon. Lady Justice Wanjiru Karanja of the Kenyan Court of Appeal to provide remarks. These panelists were chosen due to their recognized leadership in the fight to extend justice to all.
