There will be an orientation and information session on Friday, October 18, from 2:30 to 4:00, in Furman Hall, Room 216, regarding dedicated post-graduate internships through the International Law and Human Rights Fellowship, the International Finance and Development Fellowship for LLMs, Constitutional Transitions internships and clerkships at the International Court of Justice. Eligibility for each of the programs is as follows:
The International Law and Human Rights Fellowship Program is coordinated by the Center for Human Rights and Global Justice (CHRGJ) in cooperation with the Institute for International Law and Justice (IILJ) with the support of the Public Interest Law Center (PILC). Individuals who are current full-time 1L, 2L, LLM and JSD students at NYU in New York and Singapore are eligible to apply. For more information, see https://chrgj.org/opportunities/fellowships.html. The Fellowship has two major components: a 10-12 week internship in summer 2014 at one of many international organizations and a post-internship academic research paper. The list of ILHR program internship organizations is expected to include international tribunals (e.g. ICTY, ECCC); UN organizations (e.g., ILC, UNHCR); international and national NGOs (e.g., groups in locations as diverse as Bogotá, Dhaka, Johannesburg, London, Moscow, New Delhi, Taipei, Tel Aviv and Windhoek). The ILHR Fellowship application will be available on October 18 on the CHRGJ and IILJ websites (www.chrgj.org and www.iilj.org) and applications will be due Wednesday, November 13.
The International Finance and Development Fellowship Program for LLM students is coordinated by the Office of Graduate Affairs. The Fellowship Program is designed to provide students with the opportunity to gain experience working with international organizations engaged in the areas of finance, development, intellectual property and international dispute resolution. Each Fellowship has two major components: a 10-12 week internship at a prominent international organization and an academic research paper. Participating organizations for 2013-2014 are: EBRD, IDLO, IFC, IMF, WIPO, UNIDROIT and the World Bank. Students who are current full-time LLM students in New York and Singapore are eligible to apply. For more information, see http://www.law.nyu.edu/graduateaffairs/fellowshipsinternships/index.htm. The IFD Fellowship application will be available on October 18 on the OGA website (www.law.nyu.edu/graduateaffairs/fellowshipsinternships/fellowshipdetails/index.htm) and applications will be due Thursday, October 31.
Applicants to the IFD Fellowships can also elect on the application form to be considered for nominations for the World Bank Legal Associates Program (LAP) and Legal Interns Program (LIP). NYU School of Law puts forward one nomination for the LIP program, and two nominations for the LAP Program, each year, but does not guarantee the success of the nominations, nor award any financial support to successful applicants. The LIP nomination process is open to LLM students who are nationals of the Bank’s member countries. The LIP positions are paid hourly, located in Washington, DC, and can last from six to twelve months depending on the start date. The LAP nomination process is open to LLM students who are nationals of the Bank’s member countries and have a minimum of one year and no more than two years of work experience post legal education. LAP positions are paid one-year term appointments with the Legal Vice Presidency (in the Institutional Administration Practice Group, the Environmental and International Law Practice Group, or a regional group) with the possibility of an additional one-year term.
Constitutional Transitions internships for 1Ls, 2Ls and LLM students in New York First year and second year JD and LLM students in New York are eligible to apply for summer internship positions with the constitution building program at the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (International IDEA). The summer interns are part of a larger partnership between the Center for Constitutional Transitions and International IDEA (details posted here: http://constitutionaltransitions.org/international-idea-partnership/). One essential aspect of IDEA’s work is to carry out legal research in relation to the constitutional transitions that are taking place throughout the region in the midst of the Arab Spring. Interns will carry out substantive legal research, draft memoranda and other documents, liaise with counterparts in the region and participate in the organization of workshops, conferences, dialogue sessions, etc. The interns’ location will be determined closer to the fellowship’s start date. The internship application will be available on October 18 on the Constitutional Transitions website (http://constitutionaltransitions.org/). Applications will be due on Wednesday, November 13.
International Court of Justice Clerkships for NYU Graduates NYU School of Law was the first American law school to initiate a clerkship program with the International Court of Justice in 2000. Graduating students and recent graduates are eligible to apply. The Hauser Global Law School Program at NYU School of Law selects current students or alumni with clerkship experience, familiarity with international law, and fluency in both English and French to work for nine months in The Hague. Clerks work with international judges, conduct legal research, draft memoranda and listen to oral arguments on issues in Public International Law. The deadline for applications has not been determined, but is expected to be in January 2014.

There will be an informal meeting for students in New York on Monday, October 28, from 5:30 – 7:00 PM in Golding West Wing in Vanderbilt Hall, for interested students to meet with former participants in the fellowship and summer internship programs (but not ICJ clerkships).
