Anna Macdonald

Practitioner in Residence


Anna Macdonald is an experienced international campaigner and advocate, currently providing consultancy to the United Nations. She led the successful 10-year international campaign for the Arms Trade Treaty, which was adopted at the UN in 2013, and spent five years working for its effective implementation and universalization as Director of Control Arms. Prior to this, she worked for Oxfam for 18 years leading multiple humanitarian and social justice campaigns, culminating in her role as Head of Arms Control. She has an MA in Development Studies from Leeds University. She is currently writing a book assessing the utility of treaties, and the lessons learned from the ATT campaign.
