Edward Bechard-Torres

Edward Bechard-Torres is a doctoral researcher interested in the relationship between socio-economic rights, private law, and the political economy. He is currently pursuing projects studying how the recognition of socio-economic rights have influenced private law legal cultures in jurisdictions in the Global South, and how these rights have inspired positive duties for corporate actors.

He holds a joint Bachelor of Civil Law/Juris Doctor from McGill University and a Master of Laws (LLM) from the University of Cambridge. He has taught private law at McGill University, practiced in commercial litigation in Montreal, and was a law clerk to Madam Justice Suzanne Côté of the Supreme Court of Canada.
