Silvia De Rosa
Biography

Silvia De Rosa served as Consultant to the U.N. Special Rapporteur on Extreme Poverty and Human Rights, Philip Alston from 2015-2016. Currently, she serves as Consultant in the dispute resolution team of IFC’s Compliance Advisor Ombudsman, in Washington, DC. On a part-time basis, she also works as the Center’s Communications Officer.

Silvia graduated in international law from the Catholic University in Milan, Italy, with study sessions at American University Washington College of Law and University of Technology Sydney, and a final dissertation on the criminalization of torture within national legal systems. She also holds an LL.M. in European and International Human Rights Law from Leiden University, where she graduated cum laude and top of her class, and was awarded the Prof. H.G. Schemers Scholarship. For her LL.M. dissertation, for which she received the Valedictorian award for best thesis, she explored, under the supervision of Prof. Nico Schrijver, the interactions between the realization of economic and social rights and development-related programs from the point of view of the legal limitations under Article 4 of the International Convention on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights.

Before joining CHRGJ, Silvia worked for the Migrant and Refugee Rights Co-Group at Amnesty International Italy and as a litigator in Italy, while also volunteering for several human rights projects in Europe and in India. She is a contributor to the Leiden Law Blog and is currently working on a new online magazine project on women’s empowerment.

Her research interests include economic and social rights, poverty reduction, development and women’s rights.
