UN Special Rapporteurs

The Center for Human Rights and Global Justice is home to the former United Nations Special Rapporteur on extreme poverty and human rights, Professor Philip Alston, and the former United Nations Special Rapporteur on the promotion of truth, justice, reparation and guarantees of non-recurrence, Transitional Justice Program Director Pablo de Greiff.

The Center’s Extreme Poverty and Human Rights Project and Transitional Justice Program complemented and supported the work of the Special Rapporteurs throughout their tenures by creating platforms for mandate activities and generating related research and programming through contributions by Center staff, students, and other faculty.

Prior to his current appointment, Professor Alston served as UN Special Rapporteur on extrajudicial, summary or arbitrary executions from August 2004 through July 2010. CHRGJ’s Extrajudicial Executions Project collected a detailed archive of news, documents, and legal analysis generated by the Special Rapporteur and Center project staff during this mandate period.
