UN Special Rapporteurs

The Center for Human Rights and Global Justice is home to both the current United Nations Special Rapporteur on extreme poverty and human rights, Professor Philip Alston, and the former United Nations Special Rapporteur on the promotion of truth, justice, reparation and guarantees of non-recurrence, Senior Fellow Pablo de Greiff.

The Center’s Extreme Poverty and Human Rights Project and Transitional Justice Program complement and support the work of the Special Rapporteurs by creating platforms for mandate activities and generating related research and programming through contributions by Center staff, students, and other faculty.

Prior to his current appointment, Alston served as UN Special Rapporteur on extrajudicial, summary or arbitrary executions from August 2004 through July 2010. CHRGJ’s Extrajudicial Executions Project collected a detailed archive of news, documents, and legal analysis generated by the Special Rapporteur and Center project staff during this mandate period.
